PRAYER FOR TODAY – Monica Yearsley

Today, I pray for God’s power to guide you through all the decisions you make, and any difficulty you may face,
His might to uphold you as you go about the work of His kingdom,
His eyes to watch over you, and keep you safe from harm,
And always that His wisdom will teach you more about His love.

WAIT FOR THE LORD – Monica Yearsley

How often do we wait for something? Probably we wait for something almost every day and we don’t usually want to be waiting: we wait for a phone call, something to be delivered or maybe for the traffic (or queue of people) to allow us to move again.

Normally we don’t like waiting. Our lives always seem to be rushing from one place, one job, one responsibility or one meeting to another and any waiting seems to be a waste of our time.

Yet here, in Psalms, although it doesn’t immediately look like anything different from what we are used to feeling about waiting, we are encouraged to see waiting as something positive.

I wait for the Lord – we need to wait for His message, wait to see His blessings “delivered” and wait for things to get moving….our human hearts want immediate satisfaction; we pray and always want an immediate positive response. However, God’s timing is perfect. He is working all things out for our good. As we are waiting for Him let us also be willing to be patient. He has waited for us to listen to Him, to come back to Him when we have strayed and to deliver our lives and actions into His care.

My soul waits – as defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary wait is “to remain in a state in which you expect or hope that something will happen soon.” Waiting isn’t just a pause in our lives it can be an open expectation like breathing in…..there is an expectation that we will breathe out.

In His word I hope – through the evidence provided by His Word we put our trust in His steadfast and loving nature, His promises and His purpose.

Waiting isn’t just physical and about the fact that we can’t have everything immediately it is an attitude of mind and spirit.

As we pause our busy lives today let us breathe in deeply and consider His Word. Let us hold that specific verse of promise of His love deep within us. Then, as we breathe out let us gain strength from the sustaining energy we have absorbed.
